The human arsenal might be expansive beyond all known limits, but it has still never possessed anything more valuable than that tendency of ours to grow on a consistent basis. This is because the stated tendency has notably enabled us to hit upon some huge milestones, with technology appearing as quite a unique member of the group. The reason why technology’s credentials are so anomalous is, by and large, based on its skill-set, which was unprecedented enough to guide us towards a reality that nobody could have ever imagined otherwise. Nevertheless, if we look a little bit closer, it should become clear how the whole runner was also very much inspired by the way we applied those skills across a real-world environment. The latter component was, in fact, what gave the creation a spectrum-wide presence and made it the ultimate centerpiece of every horizon. Having such an ingenious tool run the show, unsurprisingly enough, scaled up the human experience from all conceivable directions, but even after reaching so far ahead, the prodigious concept of technology will somehow keep on delivering every right good in the book. This has only turned more evident over the recent past, and assuming a new development around the aviation space pans out as envisioned, it should make that trend much bigger for the future and beyond.

Multinational automaker, Stellantis has officially expanded its partnership with Archer Aviation to include a manufacturing agreement, which will see it mass-producing the latter’s electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft named Midnight. In case you are not quite aware, both the companies first partnered back in 2020 with a primary view of allowing the then two-year old Archer Aviation to access global supply chain, as well as other critical expertise. Next, they built upon that relationship by signing off on a full-fledged collaboration deal in Feburary 2021. However, the latest expansion bid has to be their biggest one till date. You see, under the fresh terms, Stellantis won’t just produce the eVTOL aircrafts for Archer, but it will also play a huge role in realizing the company’s newly-announced manufacturing facility which is set to be located around the Covington, Georgia region. The partners plan to initiate eVTOL production at that facility as early as 2024.

Apart from manufacturing prowess, Stellantis will also provide Archer Aviation with $150 million in equity capital. Interestingly enough, this is expected to be supplemented by a further purchase of Archer’s stock in the future.

Supporting Archer with our manufacturing expertise is another example of how Stellantis will lead the way the world moves,” said Carlos Tavares, CEO of Stellantis.

Talk about the eVTOL in focus here, Midnight reportedly boasts enough capacity to carry four passengers and a pilot at any given time. Now, although the aircraft can travel upto 100 miles on a single charge, it is optimized for short back-to-back trips of around 20 miles. Going by the latter scenario, Midnight should require just 10 minutes of charging between rides, something that turns it into a perfect avenue for air taxi transportation in the Urban Air Mobility segment.

If all goes well, Archer Aviation can essentially become the first company to bring a viable, certified eVTOL to market. As for the long-term ambition, though, it hopes to deploy more than 6,000 of these aircrafts before the year 2030.
